Makeup artist Tracy Peart tells you her must-have beauty boost, how to get shimmer right and enjoy soft skin…

The Shining

Q: I’d love to try some of the shimmer trends on my eyes, but don’t want to look like a disco ball. How do I do shimmer right? Teresa, Calgary

A: I totally hear you! You want your face to light up the dance floor but not literally. And your concern is valid because where ever shimmer is applied it accentuates that area, making it appear larger and shiny. The key to doing eyeshadowshimmer right is placement. When applying a shimmer eyeshadow, concentrate it on the lid, not the crease of the eye or brow bone. The lid is a more conservative choice that still delivers beautiful results. Depending on your eye shape, what you apply on the eyelid is mainly see only on when you blink. This way it’s not too flashy, and if you mess up the application slightly it’s not as visible.

Bag of Tricks

The essentials that help achieve my winter beauty goal: maintaining soft skin from head to toe!

1: Soft skin is good, but strong skin is better. So, not only do I appreciate that the creamier texture of Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream, $32, delivers all-day nourishment but I love that it’s been proven to strengthens skin’s barrier by over 50% in eight weeks.

2: We’ve all been there: trying to apply lipstick to lips so dry and rough they rival alligator skin… I’m putting Lise Watier Sensational Kiss Lips So Soft Exfoliating Balm, $22, in every handbag I own. Enriched with shea butter and Vitamin E you rub it onto lips and can rinse off or simply leave on overnight. It also contains fine sugar crystals that melt on your lips, eliminating dead skin cells, and – bonus! – tasting sweet like candy.
