Reservations are required but are free and allow entry at any time during opening hours on your chosen day for a glass of wine amongst the vines. The venue also does lots of interesting events like yoga or wine tastings that can be booked in advance.

Just for good measure, let’s add the magical views across Central Park and a calm atmosphere to enjoy a post-culture glass of wine. The space also features contemporary art installations which change annually – another reason to keep coming back.

Le Bain, The Standard, High Line

On the top floor of perfectly placed The Standard in the Meatpacking District, this grass-covered rooftop bar has great DJ’s and even better views over the Hudson River. There’s even a plunge-pool jacuzzi inside on the dance floor and just in case you forget your swimsuit, there’s a swimsuit vending machine for emergencies!

Mr Purple, Hotel Indigo

At the top of Hotel Indigo on the Lower East Side, Mr Purple’s frozen margarita is a particular highlight of a drinks menu focussing on classics with a twist. There is a big outdoor terrace with a larger capacity than many other rooftop destinations on this list, together with a pool, bar and amazing city views. Designed with an artist-loft ambience, it’s a fantastic spot to spend an evening.

Harriet’s Rooftop & Lounge, 1 Hotel

For another great Brooklyn option, enjoy a perfect view of the Manhattan skyline from Harriet’s. For the best way to while away a sunny Saturday, lock in a spot under an umbrella with your favourite cocktail in hand and just take in the amazing cityscape.

Gallow Green, McKaittrick Hotel

Styled as a bohemian country garden, with overgrown floral trellises and lots of weathered wooden benches and tables, the roof terrace at Gallow Green is too charming to miss and a great view of the West Side buildings sky-line is to be spied amongst the greenery. Gallow Green takes reservations for brunches, as well as for various other events, including theatrical experiences and cabaret.
